Carolee is a small home-operated kennel, emphasizing the sound, multi-purpose GoldenRetriever.
Living in Toronto has meant that our breeding program has always been limited.
The beginning of Carolee Reg'd
Shirley & Alan Goodman
This picture is of Tom Dale’s four Goldens, taken at his home in Newmarket, September 1967.It is these Goldens which were the background to our kennel. Ch. Goldendale’s Belle, CD, “Tammy”, was our fine foundation bitch, with which we were later to start “Carolee Reg’d”.
Left to right: Krooked Kreek Princess, Stilmark’s Golden Duchess, Goldendale’s Countess, & Goldendale’s Lady
Krooked Kreek Princess was Tammy’s dam, Stilmark’s Golden Duchess was the sister of Tammy’s sire, and both Goldendale’s Countess and Goldendale’s Lady were Tammy’s litter sisters.
Dr. Dale's ran all these dogs at the C.N.S.S. Invitational Indoor Retriever Trials, at various times.
Goldendale’s Lady went on to become a champion.
"Bumper" Alan & "Gamble"& "Tia" "Fable" & Shirley
Alan and I saw this breed for the first time, in our veterinarian's office, Dr. Tom Dales of 'Goldendale's' reg'd. We fell in love with these wonderful dogs, which he bred for hunting and field trials.
We had a lifetime of owning dogs and had experience with various breeds in our families' homes, but after the purchase of our first Golden Retriever, at 7 weeks, from Tom, we never looked back.
Although I knew little about hunting, we went out with friends, and I saw the reason this breed was developed, as every bird was brought back. Tom's dogs never looked more beautiful than waiting patiently for their retrieve, a quiver of excitement always discernable.
Curious Carolee Pups
Carolee was registered with the CKC in 1970.
The name Carolee was simply derived from a combination of my name, Shirley and our daughter's name, Carol.
Summertime at our Cottage...
Holly, on Shirley's left & Fable, on her right. In background Emily, on left & Whiskey, on right.
Pups in foreground Fancy, left & Aggie, right, 6 months old from Fable.
That was the summer of 1966. We have had Goldens in our home ever since.
I was determined then, to breed Goldens with that natural hunting instinct that could also conform to the standard and win in the ring!
"Gamble" & "Lacey"
My dream, early on, was to breed a dual champion, one that could 'do it all'. I am so lucky, as my dream was ultimately fulfilled!
